Not your father’s Doctor Who (it’s your grandfather’s): Two classic ’60s episodes of the almost half-century old BBC science fiction series Doctor Who, have been found, the British Film Institute said Monday. The episodes were thought lost forever. The missing episodes, dating from 1965 and 1967 and starring William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton (pictured top) respectively in the title role, were bought at a village fete in southern England in the mid-1980s, the BFI said. I’m really excited about this film. She’s been everything from “Look Around You” to every Mitchell and Webb show to “Doctor Who,” so I’m thrilled about some Oscar buzz for this great actress.
We chatted with the incredibly down-to-earth Olivia Colman about her meaty role in “Tyrannosaur” and the mad Oscar buzz it’s generating.
The Daily: Hannah spends the last half of this film bruised to the point of disfigurement, and even before that there’s a close-up shot of the bags under her eyes. Were you concerned about doing something so unglamorous?
Colman: That’s naturally what I look like! But no, there’s no way in hell you’d say no to a role like that because you haven’t got enough lip gloss on. I’ve never been seen as a glamorous-role actress and I’ve never minded.
The Daily: You said you find your Oscar buzz silly; do you find the Oscars to be silly in general?
Colman: Oh, no! Every year I watch. The whole thing is baffling, and I had no idea until this film came out that there are campaigns behind nominations. I find that to be a bit of a shame. I think the best person should get there. I didn’t know it had so much to do with money.
So, for those who wondered what happened to the comedy “Better Off Ted” (which, btw, is hilarious), I think this image has made it clear. Check out the background from when Phil and Lem go to the sub-basement where they keep discarded robot parts. A perfect ending to the show would have been the Dalek lighting up, but I guess we were able to just draw our own conclusions anyway.
No one can resist—not even Daleks.
